Step Balance
Step balance is calculated by identifying the average vertical step impact on the left vs right foot.
It is displayed as a percentage difference assuming values are both out of 100%.
By dividing the difference of the left vs right vertical impact by the maximum value of the left or right vertical impact, you can identify the difference between the force applied through each side of the body.
Example:
Following the definition above, the following calculation is used to identify step balance:
(3.74 - 3.93) / 3.93 = -0.05
If Sonra displays Step Balance as -0.05, then that is 5% total difference in favour of the right foot. This means that the average vertical impact of the right foot is 5% higher than the average vertical impact of the left foot.
- A positive value indicates that the impacts on the left foot are greater than those on the right foot.
- A negative value indicates that the impacts on the right foot are greater than those on the left foot.
Step Balance Percentage
Using the custom metric calculator, step balance can be formatted as a percentage to display this and it can then be included on all dashboard charts, tables and software exports.
